dream animals

Are you familiar with the artwork of Emily Winfield Martin of The Black Apple?

Pure Eye Candy.  In my opinion, at least.

Case in point.

Dream Animals is the first picture book written and illustrated by artist Emily Winfield Martin.  Upon falling alseep one by one, seven children are transported through their own fantastical bedtime journey to worlds far and wide.

The story's simplicity of rhyme lends itself to be an easy and gentle read.  The depth of the story, however, lies in the sophisticated illustrations of each child's dream.

Even my littlest ones, ages 2 and 4, took great joy in exploring each scene and pointing out its quirks.

How would you like to go to an elfin hollow hidden underground?

Or ride a narwhal to attend a mermaid tea party?

How about painting the stars of the night sky?

If you want to lull your little ones to sleep with happy thoughts, then you should add this picture book to your bedtime routine.  You won't regret it!

I recently bought this (and others) to start a picture book library for a friend's newborn. I think it makes a wonderful gift for a family that is expecting!
